The Beta Church

Vigil of the Feast of St Luke, Apostle and Evangelist

The internet is a wonderful tool. Especially in a world where going to the local "Catholic" church for instruction would probably result in being pushed into apathy and contempt for religion rather than wonder and awe, it is expedient that there is a medium by which Catholics can reference works that would have been only found in seminaries and great libraries five hundred years ago. God knows what He's doing! It's no mistake that these confusing times are countered with easy access to solid and reliable apologetic material, and plenty of primary sources.

On the other hand, this same platform allows for the propagation of error, imprudence, and confusion. When I write this, I don't so much have in mind the secular enemies of the faith (major news, profane entertainment, liberal philosophers, etc.) but those Catholics who have appointed themselves the Internet Swiss Guard of the Conciliar Church (ISGCC). This cyber-Magisterium has tasked itself with interpreting for us the errors and heresies of the New Church and its churchmen. And by "interpret" I mean ignore, diminish, re-write, and apologize for.

I like to believe that this phenomenon initially stems from a Catholic's natural instinct to protect the Church and the Pope. Over time and exposure, as the Conciliar Church and its leaders are unmasked, one hopes and anticipates that the Internet Swiss Guard will ease his stance and maybe go out for a coffee break. Not presuming to know exactly how well someone's sense of the crisis is developed, and therefore not to accuse anyone of dishonestly defending the false Church, it is nevertheless frustrating to deal with this phenomenon.

A typical example would be JPII's kissing of the Koran. Common objections? "He was spitting on it and got too close." "He was trying to see his reflection in the glare of the cover." "An evil spirit was pushing his head close to the book to give it the appearance of him kissing it, while another evil spirit took the picture." "He had a gun pointed to his head." "He didn't have a gun pointed to his head, but it doesn't matter because we all worship the same God and Muslims are part of the plan of salvation." OK, that last one isn't so much a hackneyed defense as it is full-on acceptance of the Conciliar Program, but you get the picture.

Recently, Jorge Bergoglio (otherwise known as Francis) gave an horrendous interview. The first reaction of the reader might be to ask "which one?" The interview with the atheist (and former Catholic) founder of La Repubblica, Eugenio Scalfari. The focus of this post does not go into parsing the errors, heresy, and blasphemy contained therein, though we do recommend that the reader view the article if they have not already. Rather, we intend to highlight the common defense mechanism that is used on the part of the ISGCC. It suffices to say that this interview involved teaching that the purpose of the Incarnation was to instill a feeling of brotherhood among men, denying objective morality and a Catholic God, and contempt and disregard for the urgency of conversion to the Catholic faith.

The most convenient and common tactic to apologize for Francis' filth is the crutch of mistranslation-- this seems to be the default position taken by the ISGCC any time he gives an interview. The media has twisted the original Italian and misinterpreted or mistranslated what he said. If this is true, we are dealing with quite a phenomenon: nearly everything Francis says is internationally, univocally and unequivocally mistranslated into error, heresy, and blasphemy by every source that hosts his interviews. That would lead us to conclude that no one in the world besides the staff at La Repubblica speaks Italian. Fascinating. Apparently this world of non-Italian speakers also includes the entire Vatican establishment (shockingly situated in Rome, Italy), considering that they have put zero effort into mitigating the scandal caused by telling a billion Catholics that the God Who founded their Church and revealed their dogmas doesn't exist. Perhaps La Repubblica would be kind enough to sublet one of their Italian speakers to the Vatican so that they could have someone properly translate that interview.

I would like to introduce a metaphor of sorts here. The behavior of the ISGCC towards these conciliar pontiffs' heresies (and the whole of the New Church, for that matter) is very much like a young child whose beta fish just died -- you know, the kind with a deep purple/magenta hue and subtle stripes of turquoise and teal. One morning the fish floats up to the top. Mom or dad comes over and informs little Johnny of Admiral Gill's demise. But little Johnny exclaims that the fish still lives, pointing at it bobbing ever so slightly, and barely noticeably, as a dead fish will do.  The child may even then poke it or lightly exhale towards it to make it float an inch or two to the left, the whole time insisting that the fish is not dead.

The ISGCC is that child, and that dead purple/magenta beta fish with subtle stripes of turquoise and teal is the Conciliar Church. Floating, rotting, being poked incessantly by a child who cannot and will not accept its obvious lifelessness. When a child behaves in such a manner, we can expect him to eventually come to terms with the facts, a recognition which admittedly requires some amount of experience. How do we respond when adults behave in the same manner, and on a topic exponentially more significant than a dead fish? This is a question we will not seriously entertain at the moment, but for now it suffices to say that repetition would seem to be instrumental to any intellectual difficulties a person of good will might have (repetitio est mater studiorum). Obviously prayer, as usual, is the most important -- prayer for the restoration of the Church and prayer that God will soon deem it time to scoop the rotting Conciliar Beta out of the bowl and dispose of it according to His great justice and mercy.
