... The SSPX, Father Pfeiffer and his company are posing as a conservative, anti Vatican II movement. They "believe" Francis I is pope yet they don't obey him. They say Francis I is a heretic and Vatican II is heretical but Francis I is a true pope. They are saying Popes can be heretics!!More comments are to follow. Though it would appear that OLR has taken the "full sede plunge" saying the 1958 conclave rendered an anti-pope (JXXIII). Are they done with Fr. Pfeiffer specifically, or the American Resistance as such?
They are severing ties to the resistance. They went sede briefly, and they are now big fans of David Hobson and his "Pope in Red" bs, aka the "Siri Theory". They think there is a "real Pope" in hiding in Portugal. They also hold as factual some rather dubious conspiracy theories, such as HAARP weather modification. In addition, they had an article up for a while that claimed that Michael Matt, John Vennari, Chris Ferrara, and a number of other prominent trads are "change agents" working to keep Catholics from realizing "the truth" of sedevacantism.
ReplyDeleteBasically, they are as close to being completely nuts as you can get, and still remain Catholic (though now that they follow and antipope, I wonder if they are actually schismatic?). They're one of the reasons why the "resistance" in St.Marys is basically non-existent. Quite frankly, I'm glad in some ways that they have gone down this route. I think that their premises are insane, but given that they are the same premises held by the sedes and the resistance, they at least are not afraid to go where logic leads them.

DeleteNuts they may be, I wouldn't say schismatic on the premise of them believing there's a pope in portugal. That being said, Sirianists and others who very firmly hold to a pope in hiding do *tend* to denounce other Catholics, an attitude which, when expressed radically, can often appear schismatic-- whether or not the person expressing it is, in fact, *a schismatic.*
"Anonymous" - - All one has to do is read the articles on that site to see you are telling untruths by twisting the truth into lies, adding words and pushing your opinions. Propaganda is not conducive to good, wholesome, Catholicism.

ReplyDeleteOn their main page, they repeatedly refer to the Siri thesis as a verifiable fact; they link to Hobson's blog; they have a whole section devoted to promoting Hobson's "True Catholic Church" with a supposed "Pope" in Portugal; they explicitly say they are rejecting the resistance because of it's R&R stance; they have a puerile "debunking" of John Vennari on the main page, as well as a crude "Way of Apostasy" diagram that displays Chris Ferrara, Michael Matt, Vennari, +Fellay, among others; Vennari and others are called "change agents" here: http://www.ourladysresistance.org/warning-of-deception.html. He makes the disgusting accusation that Vennari is leading people into apostasy.

There is a worthy distinction between those Catholics who believe that Cardinal Siri may have been the initial choice of the 1958 conclave, and even those who believe that he was actually elected pope (and even maybe those who believe he was until his death) and the David Hobson's of the world who believe that one isn't Catholic if he doesn't recognize Siri as pope and that one must accept the current "mystery pope" or one is schismatic.

I too read that section on the denying the Incarnation. What you failed to post was the next sentence: "Perhaps ignorance makes them innocent since the deception is so fierce." It sounds like a logical conclusion which also includes the mercy of God for ignorance which is rabid in our days. What is astonishing is the misquoting which, since we are dealing with rational man here, seems to be intentional in order to twist and turn this person or persons or website into some big evil thing. Along with the rabid ignorance of our day there is also rabid misquoting. Careful. Quoting people accurately is really hard — and you can quote me on that! (Is it really?)
DeleteAs for a David Hobson follower (who is that?), I seem to recall somewhere on that website, and I cant recall where (Maybe the SSPX crisis page??) where they said they are an independent website. Independent of persons or movements, just seeking the truth.
It is interesting to note that the Truth always lies on the way of the Cross. Mocking, misquotes and labeling sounds like the same treatment the "faithful" Jews gave Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Just some thoughts from a little grain of sand.
Lies in the first paragraph and false reasoning in the second. It's a good thing next to nobody knows about this website or you'd be responsible for misleading souls!
